What began as an addition and kitchen remodel turned into a re-imagining of their entire living space on the first floor and lower level. The family room, covered patio, and nook connect seamlessly to the kitchen, so that activities flow from one room to another, opening the entire first floor into a generous living space.
The renovation of the home included doubling the size of the existing kitchen, creating a very large open room. In order to break up the space into usable and intimate areas, we devised a three part organization of spaces. The first area is equipped with all of the daily necessities for the family, serving as a sort of “kitchen inside the kitchen” with easy access to the breakfast nook and patio; it has a large island with seating, a large sink, under counter microwave, refrigerators, dishwashers, and dishes storage.
The second area is the cooking area in the middle of the kitchen. It consists of a smaller island with sink situated in front of a large cabinet wall, including a professional range, built-in hood, and plenty of storage.
Near the center of the area is a bar area. A peninsula with raised countertops allows the host to serve guests, while also giving him access to the conditioned wine room through an arched door behind the bar.
The addition includes a breakfast nook adjancent to the kitchen (above), and a large covered outdoor patio with a custom cooking area.
Stay tuned as we plan to share more spaces from this breathtaking home.
