This afternoon, we’re dreaming up a one-of-a-kind rug for one of our local clients. What are you dreaming about?

That’s right – our Design Lines family has expanded with the addition of two little ones. Lauren welcomed her first child, Caroline in April and Ashley just recently gave birth to her second child, Joseph in July.

Lauren, recently designed this downtown historic home and used playful colors that evoked this uplifting and cheerful space. The client’s former suburban home was filled with neutrals and earth tones, but they were ready for a change.
As a former gallery owner, this client is an art lover. We began the design process by placing pieces from their collection.
This charming 1920s house was renovated completely and staying within the footprint kept room sizes cozy. Creative space planning allows the space to function well for today’s lifestyle.
For example, the formal dining room is now used as a casual dining and living space. It is connected to the kitchen for the feel of an open floor plan.
The space was designed not only for our clients but also for their four beloved cats. With a tendency to scratch furniture, we focused on working with fabrics like velvets and ultra-suede that weren’t as attractive to them.
The color palette consists of a unique scheme of blues, greens, and purples.
The design features a mid-century modern style contrasted against classic architectural details and 100-year old pine floors.
In the family room, we designed a panel over the mantel to allow a television to be installed there. The floor plan didn’t allow for another location that could be viewed as easily and without the over mantel panel, the television wires couldn’t have been connected properly.
The soft blue and white trellis wallpaper in the bathroom and the pops of teal and green in the bedroom give a calming and luxurious feeling to the space.

For a growing Raleigh family, this loft above the garage was designed with movie and game nights in mind! Bright colors fill this happy space.
This space also functions well for adults. Reading a book curled up on the couch or breaking out into a sweat to the latest DVD workout.
Playful fabrics paired with a zebra rug add elements of fun to the space.
We love the functionality of this oversized ottoman that can be seperated into four little triangles for additional seating. We think the coolest feature are the built-in cabinets that house a television which appears with a hydraulic lift.
Do you dream of a fun multi-functional space in your home? Tell us about it.

Designing a nursery is always a fun project to tackle and I’m excited at how this little girl’s nursery turned out. Here are a couple completed shots!
My favorite element within the room has to be the white dresser, which currently serves as the changing table. The design is young, chic, and definitely fun!
To learn more about the beginning stages of the project feel free to take a look at previous blog posts.

What began as an addition and kitchen remodel turned into a re-imagining of their entire living space on the first floor and lower level. The family room, covered patio, and nook connect seamlessly to the kitchen, so that activities flow from one room to another, opening the entire first floor into a generous living space.
The renovation of the home included doubling the size of the existing kitchen, creating a very large open room. In order to break up the space into usable and intimate areas, we devised a three part organization of spaces. The first area is equipped with all of the daily necessities for the family, serving as a sort of “kitchen inside the kitchen” with easy access to the breakfast nook and patio; it has a large island with seating, a large sink, under counter microwave, refrigerators, dishwashers, and dishes storage.
The second area is the cooking area in the middle of the kitchen. It consists of a smaller island with sink situated in front of a large cabinet wall, including a professional range, built-in hood, and plenty of storage.
Near the center of the area is a bar area. A peninsula with raised countertops allows the host to serve guests, while also giving him access to the conditioned wine room through an arched door behind the bar.
The addition includes a breakfast nook adjancent to the kitchen (above), and a large covered outdoor patio with a custom cooking area.
Stay tuned as we plan to share more spaces from this breathtaking home.
